June to October: Dry Season and River Crossings
The dry season is the classic time for a Serengeti safari. Wildlife gathers around dwindling water sources, big-cat sightings peak, and — crucially — this is when the migration reaches the northern Serengeti, where the dramatic Mara River crossings unfold. It's the busiest season for good reason.
November to May: Green Season and Calving
The wet season transforms the southern plains into lush grassland and brings the migration's calving period (roughly January to March), when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest are born within weeks — and predators follow close behind. How to Get to Serengeti National Park?
The Serengeti lies in northern Tanzania and is most often reached from Arusha, the gateway to the northern circuit. Many travelers fly directly to one of the park’s several airstrips via light aircraft from Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) — the fastest and most comfortable option given the park’s size.
By road, the Serengeti is usually approached as part of a northern-circuit itinerary through Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the Ndutu area, with spectacular scenery along the way.
