Gombe Stream National Park
The chimpanzees are the main draw of the Gombe Stream National Park, which was made famous by Jane Goodall in 1960 when she established a chimpanzee research station there.
More About Gombe Stream National Park
It’s a magnificent, dense tropical forest rising steeply from Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania, despite its small size of 52 square kilometers. The chimps are the park’s main attraction, but they aren’t the only one. Baboons, vervet monkeys, red colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and bush babies are among the other species. Gombe is also home to a diverse range of bird species.
Gombe is located on Lake Tanganyika’s eastern shore and is inaccessible by road or air. A daytrip to Gombe with a chartered motorboat and a guided forest walk is the most convenient way to see the island.
A Gombe safari is an excellent way to get up close and personal with a chimp. Swim in the crystal clear waters of Lake Tanganyika, the world’s longest and second-deepest lake, after a day of hiking.
